Welcome to the beautiful city of Christchurch. Renowned for its ‘Englishness’ – watching people punting on flat-bottomed boats on the Avon River, you’d swear you were in Cambridge – the city is recovering strongly from devastating earthquakes in 2010 and 2011. Tonight, enjoy a welcome reception hosted by your driver/guide, and meet your fellow travellers.

Christchurch - Twizel
Get out at night into some of the clearest skies in the world and enjoy the spectacle of the Milky Way. The Aoraki Mackenzie International Dark Sky Reserve boasts a canopy almost free of light pollution, so it’s a great chance to reach for the stars.
A day full of special sights and spectacular scenery. Begin with a comprehensive tour of Christchurch, before heading towards the Southern Alps. The little stone Church of the Good Shepherd, set on the shores of Lake Tekapo and with the mountains as a backdrop, is an iconic South Island sight. Soon, weather permitting, majestic Aoraki (Mt Cook), the highest point in Australasia, comes into view. You're bound for the pretty little town of Twizel for your overnight stay.

Twizel - Queenstown
The views are gorgeous as you head for Queenstown, the adventure capital of New Zealand (and probably the world). Beautifully situated on Lake Wakatipu, and surrounded by mountain peaks, Queenstown is both lovely and lively. Tonight, hop aboard the Skyline Gondola, which speeds you 450 metres from the town to the top of Bob’s Peak on the Southern Hemisphere’s steepest cable car lift. You’ll dine tonight with all of Queenstown laid out below you.

Avoid the endless queues for NZ’s best meat-in-a-bun experience at Fergburger in Shotover St – life’s too short. Dive instead into next-door’s Fergbaker – usually no queues – for great pies and filled rolls which you can take down to the lakeside for a picnic. And then grab a great ice cream from Mrs Ferg Gelateria. Sweet as, bro!
You have a day at leisure in Queenstown – and there’s no shortage of things to keep you occupied. There are all those things that get the adrenalin going – bungy jumping, jetboating, paragliding and more – but there are also more leisurely pursuits that still take advantage of the town’s glorious setting. Perhaps a gentle cruise on the historic TSS Earnslaw across Lake Wakatipu to Walter Peak Farm; a walk through the lovely lakeshore Queenstown Gardens; or a visit to the quaint gold mining settlement of Arrowtown. Whatever you choose, Queenstown will deliver.Daily :
Today there is the option of a trip to spectacular Southland to visit Milford Sound (additional expense). The drive itself, in particular the last section as the road winds through magnificent alpine landscapes, is worth the effort. And then there’s the Sound. Jump aboard a boat that takes you the full length of Milford Sound – in fact it’s a fiord – past Mitre Peak, countless waterfalls and precipitous cliffs, and lively colonies of seals and penguins.Daily :
Queenstown - Haast
A stunning drive today from Queenstown to the west coast. The route takes you close to some of South Island’s main ski areas, and then, after Lake Wanaka, rolls through magnificent mountainous terrain. There are numerous waterfalls along the roadside on the way to Haast, which is the gateway to glacier country.

Today, you’ll return to Christchurch, beginning with a trip along the spectacular west coast. You’ll pass Fox and Franz Josef glaciers, and track along a string of beautiful beaches. Once you reach Arthurs Pass, you have the option of taking the TranzAlpine train (additional expense), one of the world’s greatest rail journeys. Whichever route you choose, you’ll be amazed by the scenery. Tonight, enjoy a farewell dinner with your fellow passengers, and new-found friends.
